    2010
    VALEAC CONFERENCE
    October 13-14, 2010
    Holiday Inn Downtown
    601 Main Street
    Lynchburg, Virginia
    (434) 528-2500
Register now to attend the 2010 VALEAC Conference. This two-day, one-night event will be held October 13 and 14.

Your VALEAC Board has negotiated a rate of $65/night (plus tax) in an effort to make this training session as affordable as possible. In addition, VLEPSC has contributed $1,500 to the conference and it is the intention of the VALEAC Board to use this funding to cover the cost of meals (EXCEPT dinner on the 13th) for those attending. Having departed from a conference in the recent past, we are confident this mini-conference will provide a high-quality program along with the networking opportunities that are so vital to the success of the accreditation program throughout Virginia.
Please see the attached schedule of events for further information. DCJS will be offering in-service credits. In addition, please indicate if you will be joining us for meals by noting the appropriate response during the registration process. Knowing this in advance will greatly aid in keeping costs down and we thank you in advance for your assistance in this area.
Additionally, please notify the VALEAC Treasurer via email at bobby.mawyer@dgif.virginia.gov if you are able to provide a raffle item for this event. Thanks in advance!

At the June 3, 2010 VLEPSC Executive Board meeting, the Commission announced Major Rebecca Edwards, Spotsylvania Co. Sheriff's Office as the recipient of the 2010 Executive Board Award.

Retired Chief John Skinner nominated Edwards in a letter the Commission, stating,

"As you know, each year the VLEPSC Board recognizes one of our many dedicated and professional volunteers who give their time and themselves to staffing the many VLEPSC and VALEAC Committees, Subcommittees and serve as assessors and team leaders to ensure the important business of State Accreditation is accomplished. It is my honor and privilege to forward the below recommendation to you for consideration by yourself and the Board for this year’s Executive Board Award:

Major Rebecca Edwards, Spotsylvania Co. Sheriff's Office

Major Edwards has been involved in state accreditation for well over 5 years. She recently completed her two-year term as Chairperson for VALEAC and has been very active in trying to provide quality training to members of VALEAC. During these tough economic times, Major Edwards recommended to VALEAC that they suspend the 2009 and 2010 Spring conferences. This was a very difficult decision for her to make, realizing how important these conferences are to the Accreditation Managers around the State. Major Edwards was able to coordinate regional trainings on pertinent topics, such as Basic Accreditation Manager and Assessor Development, to ensure our Accreditation Assessors and Managers are provided timely information and training. She made difficult decisions during difficult times, while managing to promote the mission of VALEAC and VLEPSC.

I respectfully nominate Major Rebecca Edwards, Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office for consideration of the 2010 VLEPSC Executive Board Annual Award.
    "

Congratulations to Becca for earning this distinguished award!
